Unleashing the Power of AI #2: Mastering Skill Fusion with GPT-3

Welcome to another blog in our series "Unleashing the Power of AI," in which we will highlight various uses of AI in the gaming sector. Many YouTubers have recently demonstrated how ChatGPT can be used to create code for games and even rectify mistakes in the code. While this is remarkable, we want to continue demonstrating more AI uses in games.

In this blog, we will concentrate on the skill fusion mechanisms, which entail taking two or more pre-existing talents and combining them based on a user-supplied name. The resultant skill is dependent on the abilities used as a foundation, and the name of the new talent influences the description of the new ability. With this in mind, let us continue investigating how we might employ AI to improve the gaming experience.

Limited skill fusion without AI

The only way to design a skill fusion system without the use of AI is to create all conceivable skills ahead of time. In this situation, attaining a certain ability would entail unlocking it by acquiring the required skills, but this does not allow for user experimentation. The only thing that could add diversity to this system is that the user may pick from several options for combining talents, similar to a crafting system but for skills. However, as compared to the usage of AI, this is still restricted.

The new talents are not unique to the player but are shared by everybody. This implies that the gaming experience is not as customized and distinctive as it might be with an AI-powered skill fusion system. The introduction of AI allows for greater flexibility of experimentation and the development of unique talents for each player, increasing the game's personalization and replayability. Furthermore, the employment of AI enables the development of dynamic skills that may alter depending on the game circumstances, increasing immersion and excitement in the gaming experience.

Unique with AI

To use GPT-3 in a skill fusion system, the user must choose two existing abilities to combine. Once the foundation talents have been chosen, the system will prompt the player to name the new ability. GPT-3 can produce an acceptable description for the new ability based on the player-supplied name. In order to ensure game consistency, this description should follow the same structure as the fundamental skill descriptions.

The "Dash" ability allows the player to accelerate in any direction for 2 seconds or until they change direction. The "Strike" ability, on the other hand, is a sword-based talent that does 120% of base damage while using cutting weapons akin to a sword.

The name "Forward Strike" implies a talent that combines the ability to move quickly with the ability to strike with a sword-like weapon. As a result, GPT-3 may create a description like "Accelerates forward for 1 second or until changing direction and causes 115% of base damage when striking an adversary with cutting weapons akin to a sword." On the other hand, if the name "Tremendous Impact" indicates a talent with a high impact, GPT-3 may output a description like "Generates a great strike that deals 150% damage with any sword-like weapon, but causes the player to be pushed back, taking 25% of the damage."

However, if the player picks a name that has no link to the specified base abilities, the description created by GPT-3 may be ineffective or even damaging to the player. For example, if the player selects the "Dash" and "Strike" skills and the new ability's name is "Anything," GPT-3 will generate a description such as "Accelerates any sword-shaped object causing confusion to the user for 2 seconds," which could be an ineffective or even harmful ability to the player. To achieve a relevant resultant ability, the player must choose a name that is connected to the selected foundation talents.

In conclusion,

Skill fusion is an exciting way to utilize AI in games. Through tools such as GPT-3, it is possible to generate unique and varied descriptions for the fused abilities, increasing player immersion and enjoyment. However, it is important to remember that the name given to the new ability should be related to the selected base skills to obtain a useful resulting ability.
